Footprints Theatre Company C.I.C

Outdoor Learning

Many of our workshops and performances take place outside.

We encourage students to actively learn about their evironment in an imaginative, and artistic way, which they then reflect on. Activities such as creating a sound collage from 'found objects', or responding to what is around them by creating a personal artistic response.

July 2010

A workshop with Infants in a woodland enabled them to explore the space. Children learnt to identify some of the fauna, and create Elf houses out of natural objects found in the space.

Performing Arts and Literature

The company works with children exploring ideas, and responding to their experiences in an artistic way. We work with ‘found objects’, and the site, and explore how observations and responses can be translated into the artistic medium.

The work is varied, and can be in different arts mediums. For example the children may create a group poem which is hung on a tree at the site for others to read, or, may use pebbles found at the site to create a musical rhythm which, they then use in a performance, or they may respond to a piece of local history that they uncover.

Performance work can be in specific art form if requested, or can be a multi-arts approach.  All work is National Curriculum referenced and designed with opportunities for assessment and reflection.

Cross curricular work

The work that we do offers significant opportunities to develop an understanding of the environment through Geography, Biology, History and Social skills.

Projects can be specifically tailored to developing and understanding the biodiversity of the site, environmental considerations, or local history.

We always strive to work and develop ideas with the needs of the school and pupils at the foremost.
